On Wednesday, September 19th, 1956, the western section of historical Cupid’s Cay welcome the entrance of one of its precious daughters. Her proud parents Headley (deceased) and Ella Turnquest prized and cherished her and gave her the name Patricia Irene Turnquest.

Patsy as she was affectionely called by her siblings was the second daughter born to her mother Ella who had lost her eldest daughter a year earlier in a fatal traffic accident. So for her mother Ella, Patsy’s birth was seen as a gift from God.

This fine young lady had the privilege of attending the Governor’s Harbour All Age School recently renamed the Governor’s Harbour Primary School. She left school at the youthful age of 15 yrs and sought to seek her fortune in the workforce.

Shortly after leaving school she met and fell madly in love with the “Love of her Life” a charming, kind and loving young man, John Henry Sands. Their love for one another grew more and more by the passing days. Then at the youthful age of 17 yrs old on August 24th, 1974 their lives were joined together as one.

God bless this union with six wonderful children, 3 boys and 3 girls, Shantell, Pedro, Andre, Jerome, Sherice and Claudia. Patsy loved and cared for her family dearly, she was a gentle, dedicated and “spirit filled” Christian whose life truly exemplified Jesus Christ her Lord and savior.

Patsy loved all of children dearly but it was her prized grand children that occupied her heart the most, thoughts that lived aboard she would ensure that they spend the summers home with her and John. Their love for those grand children was a love that would only be broken in death.

God bless her with a very special gift of “care giving” or baby sitting and she has known to care for many children who have since grown into ambitious adults today. Her relationship continued with those persons through out their lives.

Her employment continued with the Immigration and Labor Department where she were employed as a janitress for the past 25 yrs. She was also employed on a contractual basis for a short time with The Bahamas Electrical Corporation where here again she provided janitorial services to their offices in Governor’s Harbour.

Patsy accepted Jesus as Lord of her life at a very youthful age and became a committed, dedicated and faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church on Cupid’s Cay. This exceptional lady was always talking and witnessing to others about the “saving grace” of Christ and his healing power. She always had a kind and encouraging word to give to everyone she came into contact with. Patsy never got involved in talking negatively about others, if she could not say something good she kept her mouth shut.

On Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 after performing some chores in her backyard, she slumped to her chair where she suffered what was later diagnose as a massive stroke. That same night she was airlifted to PMH in Nassau where she was hospitalized. After being hospitalized for some two weeks her condition seem to improve and her doctors indicated that she might be released to finally return home. A few days prior to her expected release she suffered a relapse. On Thursday, August 2nd, 2012 at approximately 10:45 am God called her home to her eternal rest, to forever be with him.

May her soul rest in peace.
