1 thought on “Trafford Langton Hilton”
I wish to express my sincere sympathy to the family of Attorney Langton Hilton whom I am so grateful to have known during his earlier legal-life years. I will always remember his mischievous wit and sense of humour. He was a force to be reckoned with in court, and with his great charm and genius, I will always vividly, yet instructively recall, how during an appearance in a trial in the Supreme Court, he had to remind the judge (who insisted upon ‘barking’ at Mr. Hilton telling him that he was in his–the judge’s court) when Mr. Hilton famously reminded the judge that it was not his/the judge’s court but that “IT IS THE COURT OF THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS, NOT HIS COURT.” — this reminded the judge that he sat on the Bench to make decisions with respect to the laws of The Bahamas—not the judge’s personal views —the Judge agreed, and the trial proceeded with procedural fairness with less imposing control by the judge. I thank Mr. Hilton for such exemplary court style by him ensuring that a justice appearing in a case must always be impartial—needless to say as an Attorney practicing in the courts, I have had the opportunity—at least–on 2 occasions, to echo Attorney Hilton’s aforesaid words.
No doubt—his brilliant mind & soul now rest!!!!!
With profound sympathy,
Eleanor V. Albury
